Today’s real estate market is a far cry from what it was 5 or 6 years ago. Back then, houses were selling as quickly as signs went up and they were selling for top dollar! The market was booming and the American dream was bursting at its seams – home ownership was pervasive. I’m not saying selling houses was easy during those times, but let’s just say there were a lot more real estate agents/brokers in the biz.
As we are all very much aware, that booming market all but ground to a complete halt in 2008. Prices dropped, the economy slopped and well, realtors were dropping like flies.
Sue Otto-Calkins, withstood the torrential downpour, not because she got lucky but because plain and simple, she knows what she’s doing. More on that in a bit.
Sue Otto-Calkins is pretty much a household name in this community. Not only does she live and work here, she is thoroughly involved in the community. She’s such a huge supporter of baseball and softball that down at the community park she has a field named after her! She supports the schools, she used to be on the Oak Valley Foundation board (her son is no longer at OVMS) and has served on many committees to organize school fundraisers. Sue also regularly contributes to 4S Ranch events such as Easter Egg Hunts, Santa’s Tea’s and she has sponsored numerous golf tournament fundraisers.
Sue has lived in 4S Ranch with her family since 2003. Her daughter Madeline is in the 3rd grade at Stone Ranch and her son Elijah is a freshman at Del Norte. Coming up in October she’ll be starring in an event of her own…………….her wedding! She and fiancé, Scott (a Real Estate Attorney) met at a Padres game and they have decided to bring both families, Sue, Scott, Madeline, Elijah, and Jack and Courtney (Scott’s kids), together in Sue’s current home in 4S Ranch. Congrats Sue and Scott.
Sue attended University of Colorado, Boulder, graduated with a degree in International Affairs /Entrepreneurship and attended SDSU where she earned her Master’s Degree in Marketing. Out in the “real world” she worked in the high tech industry and co-founded a software company called Digigami, Inc. in 1994. She really enjoyed the sales and marketing part of running the company and although she has an enormous amount of respect for the high tech industry, it eventually became clear that it really didn’t suit her.
Raised in a family of real estate professionals, she was surrounded by the biz in every aspect of her life. She didn’t realize it then but she had cultivated a passion for real estate, which, following her stint in high tech, finally emerged. Her parents taught her the true meaning of hard work and they instilled in her an inherent understanding that the client’s needs are of paramount importance.
